Gail Parker, Ph.D. CIAYT, E-RYT 500 is an author, psychologist, educator, and certified yoga therapist. She serves as President of the Black Yoga Teachers Alliance Board of Directors. She is the author of Restorative Yoga for Ethnic and Race-Based Stress and Trauma, and Transforming Ethnic and Race-Based Traumatic Stress With Yoga.
Dr. Parker holds a doctorate from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. She was a psychologist in private practice for 40 years integrating yoga, meditation, and breath work into her psychotherapeutic work.
Founder and CEO of Conscious Living LLC, Dr. Parker dedicates her time to teaching Restorative and Therapeutic Yoga for emotional balance and stress relief, and to conducting Restorative Yoga teacher trainings. She is a meditation teacher and coach, and offers meditation classes and practices to individuals, groups and organizations. Dr. Parker facilitates The Joy of Meditationβ’ workshops and retreats, and is a frequent co-presenter at The Yoga Retreat for Women of Colorβ’ at the Kripalu Health and Wellness Center in Massachusetts, and the Dahlonega Retreat Center in Georgia.
Dr. Parker has appeared as a psychologist expert on local and nationally syndicated talk shows, including 7 appearances on the βOprah Showβ, as well as the βAsk Dr. Nandi Showβ. She was featured as a health and wellness expert on the benefits of yoga and meditation, in a nationally syndicated PBS health talk show series called βFeel Grandβ, hosted by Emmy Award winning actress, Jane Seymour.
Dr. Parker authors a blog called Taking Yoga Off Your Matβ’, offering tools for applying what you learn about yourself through the practice of yoga on your mat to enhance daily living off your mat. She is married and the mother of one son.
