Marriage 2.0

Episode Overview:

Today in the United States, the Pew Research Center estimates that just over 50% of first marriages end in divorce. But why is that? What factors establish a healthy, happy relationship? Everyone has a different reason for getting married, and studies found the top four reasons to be love, companionship, desire for children, and to have a relationship that is recognized in a religious ceremony. These all seem standard, but marriage is far more complex than that. With the added stress of finance, work, children, social media, and extramarital relationships, it can be hard to find a balance and create the ideal relationship. On this episode, Dr. Nandi will discuss marriage with several experts and couples who are both striving or struggling in their marriage.

Partha’s RX:

  1. If you find yourself getting frustrated with your spouse, try taking a moment of silence to cool down and collect yourself before getting into a heated argument.
  2.  Marriage is a union of two different people, so you have to remember your individuality within your relationship. Your own culture and spirituality is important, no matter how different it is from your partner’s. You’re there as partners to be a helper through the adventure of life.; Promote each other and celebrate each other’s uniqueness in your union.
  3. Having a happy marriage means living a healthier life. If you and your partner are not on the same page, try seeking a professional’s opinion to find common ground.
  4. And lastly, respect yourself, your partner and most importantly, respect your relationship.
