Partha’s RX:

  1. Stop smoking!  It will lower your risk for many cancers including esophageal cancer

  2. Watch what you drink.  One to two drinks per day for men, and one drink per day for women.

  3. Eat a diet high in green and yellow vegetables, and a variety of fruits.  To manage symptoms of GERD, avoid chocolate, peppermint, fatty foods, coffee and alcoholic beverages as they may trigger reflux and heartburn.

  4. And lastly, taking aspirin or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may reduce the risk for esophageal cancer. But don’t start a new medicine without talking to your doctor.
