Race

Episode Overview:

Dr. Nandi joins a panel of racial activists to discuss how we as a society can move from intolerance to inclusion. Whether or not you notice, racial discrimination affects all our lives every day. The most recent statistics on hate crime violence from the FBI state that 66.5 percent of hate crimes were victims of crimes motivated by their offender’s anti-Black or African American bias 21.2 percent were victims of anti-White bias, 4.6 percent were victims of anti-Asian bias, 4.5 percent were victims of anti-American Indian or Alaska Native bias. 2-300 thousand hate crimes happen in the US each year. We have all heard horrific incidents of racial intolerance. And high numbers remain despite a decreasing number of active hate groups in the United States.  So how do we as a society move from intolerance to inclusion?

Partha’s RX:

  1. The pre-conditions of a functional community require that each of us value one another.

  2. Acknowledge each other’s differences. Tolerance isn’t enough we need to immerse ourselves in other cultures.

  3. Just because you’re feeling threatened doesn’t mean you’re being threatened.

  4. Instead of judging others look within yourself first – what are you doing to expand your world.
